Joseph Cao Viet Cuong

My name is Joseph. This is not the first time that I have I sat down to write my thoughts on my vocation journey. I have written thus before in connection with my membership of the Franciscans during the three years that I was in that Order. Careful discernment of my call to the Franciscan life resulted in my leaving them and returning home. I was really interested in serving the sick so I began studying the profession of nursing. Although I was comfortable living the life of a student nurse I still felt an attraction to the Consecrated Life. One day I saw a ‘flyer’ that promoted vocations to the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God. The information in that ‘flyer’ that interested me most was that the Brothers dedicated their lives to the care of the sick. So, I decided to try my vocation with the Brothers. I feel that the charism of Hospitality is a great gift from God in favor of people who suffer from illness and handicap. Although I am in the early stages of my formation in the Order I am able to go from time to time to treat people who are in Franciscan shelters. I feel peaceful and happy with how I am living and what I am doing. I ask the Lord to help me with courage, zeal and fidelity to the Hospitaller Vocation which I have chosen in order to respond to the needs of people who are sick.
