Twelve years ago I was invited to work for this cause by a friend of mine who had been working for a long time at the service of our Church here in San Pedro Sula. I began to become acquainted with St John of God and his love for the most needy and attended discussions, retreats, sessions, planning meetings and everything that organising a group of Friends of Saint John of God entails.

I believed in my work, convinced that this was God’s project, that God in his infinite Love leads everything we do, if we allow ourselves to be guided by Him and not by our false egos. This is why Saint John of God brought about a radical change in my life, in the way I viewed my neighbour. How could I fail to love this institution where God was preparing me to become more familiar with the pain caused by the lack of Mental Health, and through this experience I learnt the most important thing in the management of patients when caring for a person who was very close to me. Here, I have found all the support and quality of service given to the sick. Working as a Volunteer and Friend of Saint John of God has fulfilled my life, convinced that what we give to others is more than we receive. Working in the Order of St John of God has been very enriching and has given meaning to my life, by enabling me to fulfil myself as a human being and as a Christian.
