Ewa Jeniec

My name is Ewa Jeniec and I came to know the Fatebenefratelli hospital through my confessor who, as I later discovered, was the chaplain there. In response to his suggestion (I myself was not thoroughly convinced at the outset), I decided to see if I could measure up, first as a candidate and then as a volunteer inside the Fatebenefratelli Volunteer corps at Marysin.

I was deeply moved from my very first contacts with the patients, probably because beforehand I had never been a person who was particularly interested in other people’s problems. And also because inside this place, absolutely no importance is given to the things that most healthy people are normally concerned with – the desire for material things, honors, entertainment and so forth.

For people who are sick, even a little progress during rehabilitation takes on enormous importance, something you cannot buy however much money you have.

This new vision of the world has profoundly changed my life. I feel that God has begun to transform my heart, my way of thinking. I have become much more sensitive to other people’s needs and problems, and I myself am able to accept the help of others in a different way.

I am acquiring faith, humility, patience and respect for those who are different. This is the greatest lesson of life that I could have had and I consider it an immense gift from God.
