Hospitality, being a universal value, varies in each individual according to his/her life story.  In my case, I am grateful to God for having placed on my path a very special way of discovering the gift of hospitality.  The path is the one I have followed as a brother of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God.

The Lord gave me the opportunity to follow my vocation by joining with the project of Christ and of the Hospitaller Order.

Contact with the world of sickness and neediness, represented by the patients in our centers, is the context in which I am daily called to reflect upon what I have, what I am, and what I am able to accomplish.  This has brought about a change in the way I perceive the world around me, for I have come to realize that hospitality is something that is born when we understand that we are part of another person’s reality.

Saint John of God is a model of extreme hospitality, and with his exemplary life he taught us how much good we can do, especially when we offer our lives through gestures of hospitality - gestures large and small.   The practice of hospitality is for the good of others and for one’s own good as well.  I have learned that every single day is the time to transcend, to show our love for others and to give thanks to God for His presence among us.
